A Century Ride is the pinnacle of cycling. How fast and how far can you ride?

A 100 miles is a long ways, can you make it?

Ultimately, it is about the bragging rights. A chance to let yourself and your friends know that you are still a force to be reckoned with.

AmericanBikeChallenge is all about providing you with the resources and training plans that will help you achieve your goal of an easy Century.

At a minimum, we recommend doing at least one 60 mile ride in the lead up to your century attempt. We also recommend riding your bike at least 5 hours per week in the 10-15 weeks leading up to the big day (more, if you have no fitness background or are significantly out of shape).

While we do provide an even fancier training plan, these two requirements are the minimum requirements that we’ve observed. If you meet these two things, you have a good chance of succeeding.

6 Weeks To A Century Training Plan

Prior to beginning this training plan, you must be able to complete a 20-mile ride in under 1 hour and 50 minutes.

The long rides below are essential for learning your body’s food and water requirements, as well as gaining the mental toughness to complete an all-day ride.

Please check with your doctor before beginning this dedicated workout plan.

Week 1: 3 Rides @ 1 hour and 1 Ride @ 2 hours

Week 2: 2 Rides @ 1.5 hours and 1 Ride @ 2.5 hours

Week 3: 2 Rides @ 1 hours and 1 Ride @ 3 hours

Week 4: Hill Repeats @ 30 minutes, 1 Ride @ 1.5 hours, 1 Ride @ 3 hrs

Week 5: Hill Repeats @ 40 minutes, 1 Ride @ 1.5 hours, 1 Ride @ 3 hrs

Week 6: Hill Repeats @ 30 minutes, complete an easy 30 minute ride, and do another 20 minutes of hill repeats. Cool Down for 10 minutes. 1 Easy Ride @ 1 hours

Total training time required: 22 hours and 40 minutes

 

Best Beginner Bike For Century Bike Ride

I was waiting for the bike shop to fix my flat. As a new rider, I wasn’t very adept at that, yet.

There was a flyer for the MS150 bike ride. It was this little flyer that first introduced me to 100-mile charity rides. It blew my mind that riders could easily pedal 100 miles in a day. (We call this a century ride.)
